2. Appointment at the clinic

Before presenting yourself for your laser hair removal treatment, it is important to closely shave the treated area(s).

Before starting, the beautician will disinfect the skin and ensure that it is ready to receive treatment (does not present any contraindications). Then, she will assess your melanin level using the patented Skintel®™ melanin reader. This will allow her to adjust the laser according to your phototype (skin color). The technician will also take the time to mark, using a makeup pencil, reference points and then apply a gel to facilitate the movement of the handpiece on the skin and ensure your comfort during the treatment.

Once the laser parameters are set and the protective goggles are on, the treatment can begin! Using the marks made with the pencil, the beautician will treat each small section with the handpiece and then cool it to minimize discomfort before moving on to another section. Once the area is treated, the area will be cleaned before applying a refreshing aloe-based gel.

3. Following the visit

Following your treatment, you may experience slight discomfort in the treated area. The beautician will take the time to explain certain rules to follow to ensure that you can resume your usual activities without risking any adverse reactions from your skin. In the weeks following your treatment, you will notice a decrease in the density and texture of your hair.

Laser hair removal treatment is not recommended if you have any of the following contraindications:

  • Use of Accutane during the six (6) months prior to treatment
  • Healing process of the area to be treated Active infections/Immunosuppression
  • If taking anticoagulants or blood thinners, you must discontinue use for at least two (2) weeks before and during any light-based treatment, or follow the physician’s recommendations in this regard. Note that anticoagulant use should only be discontinued upon approval from the attending physician.
  • Open wounds in the treated area History of light-induced seizures (epilepsy)
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Blood disorders
  • History of photo-sensitive skin disorders
  • History of hypertrophic scars or keloid formation
  • Treatment for skin cancer
  • History of radiotherapy in the treated area
  • Active viral or bacterial infections Inflammation of the treated area
  • Refusal or inability to follow post-treatment care instructions

You may observe a decrease in your hairiness as early as the first session. However, it is recommended to have 6 to 8 treatments in order to reach all the hairs in the treated area and to observe significant long-term results.

As the name suggests, hair removal is permanent. However, certain situations can cause hair regrowth (for example, a disorder or hormonal imbalance, such as pregnancy).

During the procedure, patients describe a range of sensations ranging from tingling or pinching to the snapping of a rubber band.

The treatments are extremely fast and, depending on the size of the area to be treated, can be completed in just a few minutes.

In general, there is no downtime and you can resume your daily activities immediately after the procedure.

Since hair grows in cycles, several treatments are necessary to get as close as possible to the desired results. Other factors may influence the number of treatments required, such as the color, texture, and area to be treated.

The most commonly observed side effects are a sensation of warmth similar to a mild sunburn or tingling. This usually lasts between 2 to 24 hours, but may persist for up to 72 hours. It is also possible that edema (swelling) and moderate redness occur, but these are only temporary and generally disappear within 2 to 3 days.

Martine Joly, Beauty Technician

Graduated in aesthetics from the Compétences-2000 training center for more than fifteen years, Martine has completed a full training in aesthetics. It is at this time that she discovers her passion for this field. She begins her career at Spa Beauté Accord in Laval, where she perfects the various techniques learned during her academic journey.

After a year of employment and in a first desire to be closer to her values, she launches her first business Esthétique Martine, which lasted for several years. Taking almost annual training on products, she perfects her knowledge and learns new elements each time.

Being very gentle and patient by nature, she is particularly concerned with the comfort and satisfaction of her clients. Her meticulous work is highly appreciated. Skin care is a passion for her, a way to escape for both the client and herself.

At the beginning of 2019, wishing to develop other areas of the profession, she joins the ExcelleMD Esthétique team to work in CoolSculpting, Emsculpt, and aesthetic treatments. Mindful of the client experience, Martine always likes to add her personal touch. Aesthetic treatments go far beyond beauty – it is a moment we allow ourselves, a moment of relaxation, a moment to think of ourselves.

It is with great pleasure that she will warmly welcome you in order to offer a unique service.
