Screening / Treatment of Sexually Transmitted Desease (STDs)
The ExcelleMD clinics in Saint-Eustache, Montreal and Terrebonne offer a screening service for STBBIs (sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections), also known as STDs (sexually transmitted diseases).
These screening tests are provided through our minor emergency services as well as through our regular family medicine services.
We perform screening tests for all client groups: adolescents, young adults, and adults.

More Facts About STBBIs
- Yeast vaginitis (candida) and bacterial vaginosis are not STBBIs, but we can diagnose and treat them.
- Human papillomavirus (HPV) is not routinely screened for, but testing can be done in conjunction with some Pap tests, if indicated. Condylomas (genital warts) are caused by certain HPV serotypes and are diagnosed clinically. They can appear several months after the virus has been contracted. Treatments include cryotherapy.
- Diagnostic tests are not used to screen for pubic lice (crabs). They are diagnosed clinically.
- Screening for herpes is not recommended. Although the diagnosis is mainly clinical, the herpes viral culture of lesion tests can be performed if the lesion is active.
- Hepatitis B and C are not routinely screened for but should be considered if there are risk factors. There is a preventive vaccine for Hepatitis B but not for Hepatitis C. A blood test may be performed, if needed, to confirm Hepatitis B immunity.
- There can be false negatives in some cases.
- Serial blood tests are recommended for some STBBIs, such as HIV, where seroconversion may take several months.
